A little prediction on the future of online piracy
Alternative Software & Tools

Tim O'Reilly and Richard Stallman by Julian Cash
2002
Since software on the internet is non-rivalry in nature, where usage by one person would not decrease the good to another, there might be the development of licensed, open-source software that users are encouraged to "use, study, copy, modify and redistribute."

Government and Companies may also move toward an
open source culture by adopting the usage of

The Internet as a Sharing Tool
There is the possibility of the creation of a giant new peer-to-peer network by bundling together the collective Internet bandwidth of users. This broadband capacity is not only cheaper when sold to internet service providers who are in need of a quick injection of cheap bandwidth, but also, this technology will use the community of file-sharers to cut costs of data traffic for ISPs by more than a half.
All these suggest that perhaps the internet might be used as a sharing tool in the future.

Change in motivating factor for developers

Current Open Source Problem
There is simply no certainty that wealth maximization is capable of recommending a preferred course of action.” Which means that the incentives to create may not be just profits, as some have claimed that piracy tend to erode profits. Thus, the worry that there may be less incentive to create may not hold true and there may be a change in mindset towards wanting original works to be shared with the rest of the world through the internet.

More Policing of Copyright Infringement
A
draft proposing the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) in 2008 which show plans for the
creation of an international copyright regulator with its
enforcement arm as each nation's border patrols.
Such laws to allow them to search the contents of your laptop
and other electronic devices, like iPods and cell phones
This signals that more stringent policing factors may occur in future against the fight with online piracy.

OUR CONCLUSION
Therefore, online piracy has future implications in the way the internet is being harnessed as a sharing tool, the need to change online business models and there may be a new mindset toward the incentives to create. It is a technology that has changed and will change the world.
